Substitute y. 

x^2+5x-3-x=2 

Add common factors. 

x^2+4x-3=2 

Subtract 2 from both sides of the equation. 

x^2+4x-5=0 


Quadratic Formula: 

[-4±√4²-(4*1*-5)]/(2*1)=0 
[-4±√16-(-20)]/2=0 
[-4±√36]/2=0 
[-4±6]/2=0
